Name change announced for National Breast Cancer Centre

As of Monday 11 February 2008, National Breast Cancer Centre incorporating the Ovarian Cancer Program (NBCC) will change its name to National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre (NBOCC).

The name change reflects the organisation’s mission and its ongoing work to reduce mortality and improve the wellbeing of those diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer. NBOCC achieves this through the translation of research into evidence-based information, policy, best practice recommendations and changes in health service delivery.

NBOCC will continue to be Australia’s information source on breast and ovarian cancer, providing the media with evidence-based, independent comment on new research findings and all aspects of breast and ovarian cancer detection, treatment and care.

The name change has been timed to coincide with the organisation’s office relocation to Surry Hills in Sydney.

National Breast Cancer Centre was established in 1995 by the Australian Government in response to community concerns about the human cost of breast cancer. In 2001 the Government provided funding to expand its work into ovarian cancer.
